The last few weeks and months have been very tumultuous on the weather front! Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of the people who have lost everything in Texas. It’s been great to see so many individuals step up and provide donations to those in need. Beyond the hurricane in Texas, there is a potential hurricane that could hit Florida in the coming days.
Hurricane Irma is currently bearing down on the northeast Caribbean coast. Some have speculated that it may hit Florida by the weekend. It has now gathered steam, and is currently a Category 5 storm, with speeds now in the mid 180 mile per hour range. Governor Rick Scott also recently waived all toll fees on highways, which will assist individuals in exiting the state due to inclement weather most efficiently.
A hurricane is a very dangerous and stressful event to have to deal with. Our recommendation is that you follow the lead of our Governor Rick Scott in regards to preparing for Hurricane Irma. One of the first things that you should do is to determine if you are in a flood evacuation area. If so, making plans to leave as soon as possible is the best idea. It is also a good idea to have a plan for your animals as well. Many areas have shelters, but it’s always good to have these things ironed out when preparing for a hurricane. It is also a good idea to stock up on a “Hurricane Preparation Kit”, which can include:
- Nonperishable food items
- Water
- A flashlight
- Batteries
- A local map
We hope that this blog post goes a long in helping you prepare for Hurricane Irma. Stay safe and prepare for anything! Feel free to check out more information in regards to flood insurance here as well.
